Friday 17th June 2022

Sunday is the feast of Corpus Christi. The name 'Corpus Christi' is Latin for 'the body of Christ'. This feast is celebrated by Roman Catholics and other Christians to proclaim the truth of the transubstantiation of bread and wine into the actual body of Christ during Mass.

After two years absence the practice of holding a Corpus Christi Procession in the city centre will resume again this year, starting at 3.00pm from St Marie’s Cathedral on Sunday afternoon.

All children who have made their First Holy Communion are welcome to attend in their finery and lead the procession scattering rose petals before the Blessed Sacrament as it is processed through the city centre. This is a wonderful act of witness and always an enjoyable occasion. Those attending need to meet outside St Marie's Cathedral from 2.30.

This has been another busy week at St Josephs !

We have been particularly proud of our Y1 and Y4 children. The Y1's have been busy working on their Phonics and Y4's all took part in the National Multiplication Assessments.

Y5 visited Sheffield Cathedral this week, their behaviour, attentiveness and manners were excellent - such wonderful ambassadors of our school. They even found time to have fun in the sun, picnicking in the Peace Gardens.

Today we received our copies of "Queen Elizabeth A Platinum Jubilee Celebration."

All of the children from Reception to Y6 have been gifted a copy and shall be bringing one home very soon.

You can:

1. Donate prizes - If anyone would like to or is able to donate a prize we'd really, really appreciate, please get in touch if you can

2. Buy raffle tickets (£2.50 per ticket) – we'll let you know when they are available on the School Gateway. If you’re buying tickets on behalf of someone please add their name and contact number in the comments box on the gateway.

First prize: £100 Cash Second Prize: £50 Cash

The raffle will be drawn on Monday 18th July

Thank you in advance for your ongoing support

Hopefully the lovely weather shall continue - please can you make sure that your child has a clean water bottle filled with water (no juice /pop/flavoured water allowed) on a daily basis.

Also, children may need a sun hat and sunscreen (to be applied before they leave for school.)

Uniform Reminder

When the children started back in school in September, they looked incredibly smart in their new uniforms.

It has been noted that standards are slipping. Please note uniform is as follows:

Green V Necked Knitted Cardigan/Jumper with School Badge
White Cotton Shirt with collar suitable for a tie
School Tie
Tailored Grey Trousers/Shorts
Grey Pinafore/Grey Skirt - Knee Length
Green Gingham Dress - Knee Length
Socks/Tights  -  Grey or White
Black Sensible Shoes (No Trainers No Boots No Sandals)

All of the above information is available on the school website.

If you have any issues or problems in terms of uniform, then please contact the school office.

If children do attend school in incorrect uniform, then a letter will be sent home from school. If there is a reason that your child is not in uniform, then please let the school office know.

This week's language legend is Milan from Y3 for his excellent pronunciation and being able to speak the full sentence in French without being prompted or given the sentence stem.

A message from the Parish of St Josephs

There will be a short meeting (half an hour) at the church on Saturday morning 18th June at 09.30 for those interested in becoming an altar server. Some children expressed an interest in this whilst they were in preparation classes and now is the opportunity to learn more about this important service. If you cannot attend the meeting but still wish to serve then please speak with Father Mark.

Please note this important reminder that the Bishop's conference have restored the obligation to attend Mass weekly stating

"that the reasons which have prevented Catholics from attending Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation no longer apply."

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that
"You shall attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation and rest from servile labour." The obligation is binding every Sunday. It is a holy day of obligation, a day for you to grow in your faith, and you are required to attend to the extent that you are able to do so.
Read more about the statement here.

https://www.cbcew.org.uk/spring-plenary-2022-resolution-returning-to-mass-at-pentecost/

"From the feast of Pentecost, we now invite all Catholics who have not yet done so to return to attending Mass in person."

This is one of the precepts of the Church that your child is now required to sustain.
