Friday 24th September 2021

This week our wonderful Y6 class had their residential at the Thornbridge Centre.

I was so proud of each one of them — they were all an absolute credit to their families and to our school and such a joy to be with.

I know the trip gave them lots of special memories that will hopefully stay with them for a lifetime.

This week's star awards go to ...

Nursery : Maja -She is new to us in Nursery and has settled in really well, and is mixing well with her new friends.

Reception :Orla for super listening in our maths meeting and speaking in full sentences! Well done Orla.

Year 1 : Dan for being enthusiastic for his learning and taking in a leading role in our harvest song.

Year 3: Paul for his amazing work in maths this week. He has shown great understanding and reasoning.

Year 4: Mia - for settling in really well.

OMEGLE WEBSITE

PLEASE BE VIGILANT

It has been brought to our attention, that recently there have been instances in South Yorkshire where children have been found to have been searching for the OMEGLE live video chat website — a website where children have been found to be exposing themselves, as well as adult males.

According to the BBC, “Omegle links up random people for virtual video and text chats, and claims to be moderated — but has a reputation for unpredictable and shocking content.”

It has also come to light that there is an emerging trend for those using TikTok to also get involved in OMEGLE and on TikTok alone, videos tagged with “Omegle” have been viewed more than 9.4 billion times.

In the last six months, many schools, police forces and government agencies have issued warnings about the site in the UK, US, Norway, France, Canada and Australia,

So please remain vigilant and make sure that you check your child’s social media history/website browsing history.

Unfortunately due to the current climate, we are unable to hold our usual Macmillan coffee morning.

So instead this year we shall be having a Macmillan Bun Sale, just for the children next Thursday (30th September.)

Buns shall be 50p each and shall be sold at break time.

This week classes from Y1 to Y6 have been electing their School Council reps and also choosing their Learning Ambassadors.

We will update you in next week's newsletter and hopefully share some of their ideas with you.

International Peace Day

On Tuesday it was the International Day of Peace — this year the theme was “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world.”

Today in assembly, we reflected on what peace actually means. It can be calm and quiet, but it can also relate to a time when people are not fighting or disagreeing. All over the world there are people caught up in disagreements. Some of these disagreements are happening in wars, where there is danger and fear. Some are happening within our homes and families, where there is fighting and unhappiness. We reflected on how to find calmness and peace , even in the midst of differences and unhappiness.

Dear God,

Thank you for the times when I need to be peaceful and can find peace.

Please be with people who are scared, tried or troubles and cannot find the peace they need.

Please help me to try hard to keep the peace and avoid unnecessary upset and hurt .

Thank you that you are always there for me, whether I am peaceful or not !

Amen
