Friday 23rd April 2021

We were so pleased to welcome all of our children back into school this week.

The children have all been working extremely hard and are back into the swing of things, their enthusiasm has been amazing.

This year has gone so quickly, I can't quite believe that we are now in the summer term. There are lots of exciting things planned for the weeks ahead, including a special Rosary week in May, ending with a special event to honour Mary and also our science week, which due to Covid-19, had been postponed.

Reminder dropping off in the morning

Please make a real effort to be on time when dropping off and collecting your child/children. Obviously on occasion things happen and being late is unavoidable , please can we ask that if you are, you call the office and wait by the gate with your child/children. It has been noted this week, that a few children have been left alone at the gates when they have arrived late. This is a real concern as all staff are within the building, so there is no supervision.

Please always stay with your child/children until a member of staff arrives and takes them into school.

This week we received lots of fantastic resources from Lifebuoy.

The children will be bringing home their very own hand sanitiser gel today.

As these products contain alcohol they carry the guidance keep out of reach of children.”

In line with other hand sanitiser products, please be reassured that this product is safe for the children to use at home under the supervision of an adult.

This year science week, will be in the week commencing the 3rd of May.

Mrs Dungworth, our science lead  will be in touch soon, with exciting updates !

This year, St Josephs are joining the ACN Schools Team in praying one decade of the Rosary each day for one week in May, wk commencing 10th May 2021 (which includes the feast of Our Lady of Fatima). We offer our prayers for peace in our world and ask for Our Lady’s intercession and protection on behalf of Syrian families and Nigerian widows and orphans.

As we are a new school to this initiative, we shall receive 100 free Rosaries .

We shall end this very special week, with a day to honour Our Lady , more details to follow very soon.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Our school is delighted to be taking part in Royal Mail’s Heroes Stamp Design Competition, honouring the heroes of the coronavirus pandemic.

Eight pupils from primary and secondary schools across the UK will become the designers of this stamp set, and one could be your child!

Each entry we send in will have the name of each child, plus their age and our school’s name and postcode.

Before we submit entries to Royal Mail we need explain how Royal Mail will use these details. Royal Mail will use these details of children who enter (i.e. name, age, school name and postcode) to run the competition, including to contact the winners and distribute prizes. Royal Mail will share this information with iChild Limited and The Education Company Limited, who are helping Royal Mail to run the competition. Except in the case of the 120 children who reach the Regional Finalists stage, Royal Mail will delete all of this data by 30th September 2021. As is usual in competitions, Royal Mail may, if requested, tell the Advertising Standards Authority of those winners’ surnames and counties.

Members of the public will also be able to ask Royal Mail for that information after 30th September 2021. If you object to your child’s surname and county being available to members of the public, you should write to Heroes Stamp Design Competition, Royal Mail Group, 185 Farringdon Road, London EC1A 1AA. However, Royal Mail may still need to give this information to the Advertising Standards Authority on a confidential basis. If your child enters the competition, Royal Mail has what data protection law calls a “legitimate interest” to use your child’s details (i.e. name, age, school name and postcode) in the ways described above. However, your decision of what is best for your child takes priority, so if you have any concerns please let your child’s teacher know not to include your child’s design in the competition. Please refer to Royal Mail’s Privacy Notice at https://www.royalmailgroup.com/en/site/privacy-notice/ for more information about how to exercise data protection rights, contact Royal Mail’s Data Protection Officer or raise complaints with the Information Commissioner’s Office. If your child is one of the competition winners, Royal Mail will contact you separately, via the school, to discuss whether you would be willing to take part in publicity. Thank you, Heroes Stamp Design Competition

As St George was a martyr, someone who died for their faith, the readings on his feast day reflect this. Psalm 126 says, “Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.” Are we prepared to do something we might find hard in order to help our neighbour, either at home or overseas?

A thought to take away

St George is often associated with killing a dragon, which may represent fighting against injustice. What are the bad things that you can conquer in your life? Do you have courage to stand up when you see something unjust happen? Who will speak out if you don’t?

Let us Pray

Saint George, With courage, you stood up to those in power, to tell them that what they were doing was wrong.

Pray that we, too, may have courage to stand up for what is right, with God’s help. You were not ashamed of your faith.

Pray that we, too, may be proud of our faith, and may cheerfully show the love of Jesus in all that we do.

St George, pray for us.

Amen.

St Joseph's School Prayer

Thank you to all the children who entered the competition to write a new school prayer to St Joseph.

The winners for each Key Stage were :

Early Years — Reception Class (Wrote the prayer together)

Dear St Joseph,

Thank you for looking after Mary and Jesus.

Thank you for caring for all of us and keeping us safe.

Amen

KS1 - Ruby in Y1

Dear St Joseph,

Let love and kindness be shown at school

And when we are at home

Please help poorly people get better

Amen

Help us to be independent hardworking pupils,

With courage and confidence, just like you.
