16th December 2019

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you to all of the parents, grandparents and visitors who  have been into school this week to watch the nativities and assemblies; your presence really helps to make these events extra special . Thanks must also go to all of our fantastic staff, who have worked tirelessly to ensure that all performances are a real success.

The children have all been incredible and shown us all what superstars they are.

Last week I spent much time in all classes,in  RE lessons. This is a special time and it was an absolute delight to observe the children all working really hard and also appreciating how important the time of Advent is for us all.

This week, the magic continues and the children will all have lots of fun with parties and other treats . It really is reassuring to know however  , that all of our children have a good understanding of the real meaning of Christmas and of our Catholic traditions.

This week we have our final two assemblies and also the KS2 Carol concert, in church at 2pm on Tuesday .The end of term finishes in a very appropriate way, with a whole school Mass at 2pm on Friday, it would be lovely to see you there.

On behalf of everyone at St Josephs, I would like to wish you all a very restful, happy and holy Christmas.

We look forward to seeing all of the children back in school on Tuesday the 7th of January 2020.

God Bless,

Mrs McFarlane

Thank you for all of your generous donations of toys for the Hallam FM Mission Christmas Appeal.

We took them to the radio station on Thursday and the volunteers were really thankful. It is a sad fact that 1 in 3 children are living in poverty . Your kindness and generosity will mean that many local children will now have a special Christmas.

Thanks to all of you for donating to the Hands worth Foodbank.

Y5 will be making another trip there this week to take the rest of the food.  The children spent some time with Rosie at the Foodbank, discussing how important these food parcels are to many  families in Hands worth and the local area, especially at this time of year.

During last Fridays assembly, the children heard that Santa had been in touch to say that he was unable to send his reindeers this year for a visit. Sadly, one of them is in reindeer hospital, and must get strong and better before their big night on the 24th of December !

We did hear that if possible , we may have other special visitors this week ! We are all very excited !

Thank you to our very special "FRIENDS of St Josephs Elves" - who once again came into school to make sure that every child could purchase a special Christmas gift.

The children absolutely love this Christmas sale and it definitely adds to the special magic of Christmas.

Elf Day at St Josephs is now a bit of a tradition, that is looked forward to by children and staff alike.

Everyone looked amazing and had a fantastic day.

All of the donations from the day, will be used to kick-start our Sheffield Bears Fund - for the Sheffield Children's Hospital . Thank you again for all of your support and generosity.

House Treat

This term the house captains have been very busy, deciding on a fitting end of term treat for the winning house . It was decided that this  would be a Christmas film experience. All of the children voted for one of four films (chosen by the House Captains.) The choices were:

Polar Express

Arthur Christmas

Nativity Rocks

Santa Claus the Movie.

Surprisingly Santa Claus the Movie, was the outright favourite.

Congratulations go to the winning house the Angels, who will enjoy this treat on Wednesday . Children in the Angels house are also allowed to come into school wearing either a onesie or PJ's as the House Captains, felt it was important that they were all "really comfy," whilst enjoying their treat. Children may also bring in a cushion to sit on , if they would like to.
