Year 6 Performance of Alice in Wonderland

A gigantic thank you to Ms Beasley, Mrs Roe and Miss Turner for masterminding the exceptional Year 6 performance of Lewis Carroll’s iconic tale of the little girl who falls down a rabbit hole, Alice in Wonderland. The children all worked very hard making the set, props, acting and singing.

There were two performances. On Monday evening, Year 6 delivered a fantastic performance for their parents. The rest of the school were very impressed with their acting and musical skills when watching their performance on Tuesday afternoon.

Year 6 Prom continued....

We had the most amazing time celebrating the end of our Year 6's journey at St Joseph's at the prom on Friday evening 12th July. It was an evening filled with smiles and laughter.  It was a true pleasure for staff to spend the evening with this delightful class and we wish them all the very best for the next stage in their journey.  A huge thank you to all involved in making the evening such a success. The photos below provide a snapshot of this memorable event.

Y5 Make £5 Grow

Y5 have been taking part in a project from Virgin Bank called 'Make £5 Grow', where they have received a loan to start their own businesses!
They have been working hard to make some fantastic products to sell including bracelets, key rings, slime & other exciting items!

The children in KS2 were able to bring in £2.50 to spend at the sale. Any leftover items were sold at the end of the day.

Learn, create, grow

Participating in this scheme encourages the children to embrace their entrepreneurial skills, and help them to understand how money works which will help them succeed later in life.

On Wednesday, we had the fabulous Maker Team in school exploring traditional tales. The team were working with some of our multilingual families to explore how traditional tales and languages are woven into our identities.

We are going to say a sad goodbye, good luck and a huge thank you to Mrs May as she leaves St Joseph's. Mrs May has been working at St Joseph's since September as our Year 2 class teacher. She has been absolutely fantastic and we wish her good luck and all the best for the future as she begins a new adventure.

St Joseph's has achieved the Food for Life Bronze Award, which means that the food we serve has been rigorously assessed to ensure it’s high quality, healthy and sustainable.

As a Food for Life Bronze school we:

  • Have committed to improve our school food culture by developing a school food policy.
  • Meet Bronze Food for Life Served Here Award standards which shows that school food is healthy and uses seasonal ingredients that are at least 75% freshly prepared.
  • Involve pupils and parents in planning improvements to school menus and the lunchtime experience, boosting school meal take-up.
  • Give every pupil the opportunity to visit a local farm, and take part in cooking and food growing activity.”

Persistent Absence

Any child with attendance below 90%, regardless of the reason for absence, is considered to be a persistent absentee. This equates to just 2 days each month.

Is your child a persistent absentee?

Statistics show that persistent absentees are less likely to achieve their full potential, and can affect GCSE grades and a child's future job prospects.

Routines

The easiest way to ensure your child attends school on time every day is to establish a Good Morning and Evening Routine

If mornings are hectic in your household, prepare as much as possible the night before.

Punctuality

It is important that your child attends school every day and on time. Arriving late to school is unsettling for children.

Weekly Attendance - week beginning 15th July 2024

Our whole school attendance target for this academic year (23/24) is 96.5%

NHS 'Is my child too ill for school?' guidance

At times, growing up can be a stressful experience. It’s not unheard of for young people to fret about things that could potentially go wrong in their lives – and what implications this would have for their life. In some situations, this can go beyond feeling uneasy about the future and become full-blown anxiety, which affects their mental, emotional and even physical wellbeing.

While worry and anxiety can originate from many different places, it's immensely important for parents and educators to understand the effect this can have on youngsters – and how best to support them if they’re going through a difficult time. This guide provides insight into the ramifications of worry and anxiety, and how you can help children manage – and hopefully overcome – these challenges.

Prayer for the end of the school Year

God of all beginnings and endings,

We praise and thank you for the gift of the school year.

It has been a time filled with grace and blessings,

with challenges and opportunities, joys and sorrows.

The days have passed quickly Lord.

The weeks, the months, the seasons and holy days,

The exams, breaks, holidays and assemblies,

Have all come forth from your hand.

Give us the rest and refreshment we need this summer.

Let our efforts of this past year bear fruit.

Bring all of our plans to a joyful conclusion,

and bless us, according to your will.

With the fulfilment of our summer hopes and dreams.

Watch over us in the weeks ahead,

and guide each day as you have done this past year.

Help us return to school with a new spirit and a new energy.

May we continue to grow in age, wisdom, knowledge and grace all the days of our lives.

Amen
