KS2 Choir

Our fantastic KS2 choir, led by Mrs Cosgrove and Ms Beasley, performed a series of songs for parents on Tuesday afternoon. Toby from Year 3 played a beautiful version of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen and several children from Year 3 and Year 4 choreographed and rehearsed dances which were excellent. Parents were invited to sing along and join in with all the songs.

Year 4 Violins

The children in Year 4 demonstrated their musical skills with an informal concert for their parents. They were able to showcase their amazing learning over the year. The musical fundamentals developed through this programme builds a greater understanding for children of what is involved in music making and creates strong foundations for further instrumental lessons.

A new National Framework for Penalty Notices will come into effect on 19th August 2024.

From this date, the fine for school absences will be standardised across the country. Fines will be considered if a child has missed 10 or more sessions (equivalent to 5 days) for unauthorised reasons.

The fines will be set at £80 if paid within 21 days, and £160 if paid within 28 days. This adjustment aligns with inflation and represents the first increase since 2012.

Additionally, if a parent receives a second fine for the same child within any three-year period, the fine will be set at the higher rate

of £160. There will be a cap of two fines per parent within any three-year period. If this limit is reached, further actions such as a parenting order or prosecution will be considered.

In cases where prosecution occurs due to non-attendance, parents could face fines of up to £2,500.

It is important to note that money raised through these fines is used solely by the local authority to cover the costs of administering the system and to fund attendance support initiatives. Any excess funds are returned to the government.

We understand the importance of regular school attendance for your child’s education and overall development. If you have any questions or need further clarification regarding these changes, please do not hesitate to contact us at school.

Weekly Attendance - week beginning 8th July 2024

Our whole school attendance target for this academic year (23/24) is 96.5%

NETWORK RAIL PRIMARY SCHOOL SAFETY TALK

Due to increasing incidents of trespass on the railway near our school, we urgently need you to please share the relevant 15 minute safety video with your children and families.

Remember the rail network is all around us including rail depots and sidings which are extremely dangerous places for young people to play on.

Watching the rail safety videos has led to a significant decrease in the number of fatalities and injuries

Transition

We are pleased to report that our transition day went very well. The children had the opportunity to meet their new class teams and spent the day with them. Transitions between classes, year groups and settings are of significant importance in the lead up to the new academic year. Jacqui our mental health practitioner presented an assembly with Reception and KS1 and then KS2 on change and how to respond to them. She talked to the children about Some changes can be exciting and some changes can be scary and overwhelming. Jacqui demonstrated different strategies they could use to help them react to the changes in a positive way.

Sports Day: A Nail-Biter Finish!

What a fantastic Sports Day we had! The competition was fierce, with every house giving their all in every event.

This year, the results were the closest we've ever seen! In a thrilling finish, the Angels house emerged victorious with a grand total of 632 points, just one point ahead of the runners-up!

A huge congratulations to the Angels for their teamwork and spirit, but a massive well done goes to all the houses for their incredible sportsmanship and effort throughout the day. Every single student who participated should be proud of themselves!

The sharing of nudes, semi-nudes and other explicit material is a prominent issue in today’s digital landscape: both their distribution and their misuse. In fact, the National Crime Agency has issued an alert to hundreds of thousands of education professionals after a study found that 26,718 cases of "sextortion" had been reported in 2023 - more than doubling from the year before.

It's vital for parents and educators to be aware of how they can safeguard children from exposure to, or involvement in, sharing intimate images – especially given that the sharing of such material featuring under-18s is a serious criminal offence. This week’s guide offers expert insight into the risks of sharing intimate images online, as well as tips on implementing measures to shield children from encountering inappropriate digital content of a sexual nature.

As it is getting towards the end of the year please could you return any items belonging to school, We are particularly looking for the return of:

  • Library and reading scheme books

Reading scheme books are all stamped with St Joseph's and may have a coloured band on their spine. We have had a considerable number of books not returned and would appreciate any effort to make all the books available for every child's reading development.

The Year of Prayer 2024

In preparation for the 2025 Jubilee Year ‘Pilgrims of Hope’, 2024 has been designated a Year of Prayer.

The Holy Father has asked that 2024 be a year of prayer, as a preparatory year for the Jubilee.

"Prayer unites us: it makes us brothers and sisters. It is in prayer that our hearts find the strength not to be cold and insensitive in the face of injustice. In prayer, God keeps calling us, opening our hearts to charity!

Pope Francis

Prayer Intention for July: For Pastoral Care of the Sick

The Holy Father asks “for the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick to give strength from the Lord to those who receive it and their loved ones, becoming a visible sign of compassion and hope for everyone.”

Our final Mass of the year will be on

Friday, 19th July, at 10:00am

in

St Joseph's Church

Parents and families are warmly invited to join us.
