Rosh Hashanah

This week Mrs May led a whole school assembly celebrating the Jesish feast of  Rosh Hashanah.

Rosh Hashanah is a two day celebration of the Jewish New Year which commemorates Gods creation of the world. It's a time for prayer, good deeds and reflecting on past mistakes. Many Jewish people spend the time between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur in prayer at a synagogue. The Shofar, a curved ram's horn, is used to call the people to the services. The Shofar is symbolic as it reminds us of the ram that was sacrificed by Abraham in place of his son Isaac. After visiting the synagogue there is a feast including challah bread, apples dipped in honey, and pomegranates

Wednesday 20th September was National Fitness Day 2023. This was a chance to highlight the importance of regular physical activity and also to raise awareness of how it can help us to lead healthier lifestyles.

Several classes joined Handsworth Grange through YouTube for a live Wake & Shake session. Year 3 had a fantastic time. It engaged the children in a fun and lively way, as they practised easy routines to pop music and had a great time!

Congratulations to our new school council representatives

At the beginning of each new school year a new School Council committee is elected. Pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 have the opportunity to stand as School Council representatives for their respective year groups. Two pupils per year group are voted onto the School Council by their peers.

School Council meetings take place regularly each term. The School Council take an active role in planning and deciding how the school can be developed or enhanced. The School Council committee organises fundraising events to raise money for their chosen charities each year and actively promote the school mission statement in their work. They are a very valued part of our school community.

MEET THE TEACHER MEETINGS

Thank you to all of you who came to our Parents Information meetings. We hope they were informative and helpful.

If you require any assistance with anything, please feel free to use Class Dojo to send a message to your child's class teacher with any questions or queries you have.

From next week beginning 25th September KS1 will be taking part in ‘Forest School’ Sessions.

  • Year  One Tuesday
  • Year Two Wednesday.

Forest School is a child-centred inspirational learning process, that offers opportunities for holistic growth through regular sessions. It is a long-term program that supports play, exploration and supported risk taking. It develops confidence and self-esteem through learner inspired, hands-on experiences in a natural setting.

As Forest School is an all year round and an all-weather activity, it is vitally important that the correct clothing is worn by children and adults alike. Parents will need to provide:

  • Waterproof jacket or coat/ Water proof suit
  • Wellington boots
  • Hats and glove
  •  Change of clothes

Forest school will take place on the children’s P.E. Days so the children still come in their P.E. Kits. The children WILL get dirty so please keep this in mind. Please Label all clothing. All forest school clothing will be taken home at the end of the day and brought back the following week.

Your attendance counts

Good school attendance gives children the best start in life. The academic and social benefits of good school attendance help children throughout their childhood and later in life.

In the last few years the number of children missing days of school has increased and it is a priority in Sheffield, to turn this around. We can all work together to improve children’s school attendance.

Being on time matters too, as being late for school can be disruptive to children and their friends in class.

We want children to be in school every day, on time and ready to learn!

Why being in school matters

  • Good school attendance leads to better opportunities for children
  • School isn’t just about education – it’s about making friends, enjoying new activities, building confidence and skills for future life
  • Being in school helps to keep children safe and well, as children with good school attendance are less likely to be involved in crime or anti-social behaviour
  • Good attendance habits start at a very young age – by encouraging this, you will be setting out values for their future success in life
