A very warm welcome to a new academic year at St Joseph's!

The new academic year has started this week and it has been so good to see all the children and parents who have been back at school after the summer holidays. Also, a very warm welcome to all our new pupils and their families, we hope that they all settle quickly into school life and enjoy their time at St. Joseph’s

The staff are working on lots of exciting plans for the curriculum this year and we will be updating the website regularly with news regarding all the accomplishments of the students and families. All of the children seem to have settled in well to their new classes and we have already seen some excellent learning happening throughout school.

CONTACT INFORMATION

It is essential that we have your up to date contact details (home address, contact telephone numbers, named emergency contacts). Your child should have brought home a data collection sheet today for you to complete. Please return to your class teacher before the end of next week Friday 15th September.

LEADING LEARNING FOR MAKERS OF THE FUTURE

During the INSET day on Monday the 4th of September, all of our staff spent the day at Sheffield University with Dr Alison Buxton and her team, to kick off our MAKER journey. It was an incredible day and everyone was extremely excited about all the possibilities and opportunities that would be made available to our school.

We are embarking on both our bronze and silver accreditation and are now officially a MAKER school.  MAKER, provides opportunities for children and teachers in school to develop skills, knowledge and mind-sets for future success – inspiring creators, innovators and problem solvers

Today in assembly, the children were introduced to this exciting initiative and also learnt about the MAKER spirit. This could be referred to as a type of mind-set or out of the box thinking. We believe that given the right environment and opportunities, we can all develop a way of being that helps us to see the world as full of possibilities.

During this year and beyond, we shall be working closely with Sheffield University to develop our MAKER curriculum and develop our MAKER knowledge , skills and spirit.

Meet the Teacher Meetings

Our Meet the Teacher meetings are a valuable opportunity for parents and carers to connect with your child's class teacher and discover how you can support your child's learning throughout the academic year. The meeting will consist of a presentation by the class teacher and will inform you not only of the curriculum, but also expectations of their age group.

We strongly encourage all parents and carers to attend these meetings as they provide an informative experience tailored to each year group. It's an ideal opportunity to address any queries or concerns you may have. Research has shown that when parents work alongside the school, their child’s learning benefits.
