 St Peter and St Paul

On 29th June, the Catholic Church celebrates the lives of two great saints, St Peter and St Paul. They share a feast day because of their huge influence on the Early Church: St Paul as a missionary and teacher, and St Peter, the Apostle to whom Jesus entrusted ‘the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven’. Yesterday the children and staff from KS2 joined the parish to celebrate mass with Fr Mark on this great feast day

St Joseph's Learning Behaviour

The children awarded certificates for being Independent Enquirers this week are:

REC - Alfie is a very independent learner, he uses all the resources to help him make connections and links in all areas of learning

Year 1 - Harry is very independent and asks relevant questions which help to move his learning on

Year 2 - Martha always tries to find the answers herself before asking questions which will help her to gain a better understanding

Year 3 - Orla is always making notes and jotting down her ideas. She is always prepared to have a go and try new things.

Year 4 - Paul uses challenging vocabulary to identify and develop questions to answer and problems to resolve

Year 5 - Connie challenges herself and questions things that we often take for granted. She will then investigate and look into things in more detail

Year 6 - Daniel has carried out a variety of research at home and looked into things in more detail. He overcomes problems creatively and makes improvements

Dominic and Attie introduced our Learning Behaviour for this week

Perseverance

We will be looking for children who

  • Have the ability to stick with a task even when faced with a challenge
  • Keep going because they are interested in the goal

Francophone Day

On Tuesday 27th June the children in KS2 had a Francophone Day. Each year group was assigned a Francophone continent/countries for them to research in class

Le Monde Francophonie – The French-speaking World

Y3 - America: Le Canada - Quebec

Y4- Caribbean: Martinique

Y5- Europe - Switzerland - La Suisse

Y6 - Africa - Le Cameroun

Some of the activities were:

  • Listening to music from the country
  • Completing some art work linked with that country
  • Doing some map work linked to the geography of that country
  • Learning some history of that country
  • Looking at the day in the life of a child from that country.

At breaktime we had a food tasting in the hall which included french baguettes, croissants, pain au chocolate, macarons, quiche, dauphinois potatoes and a variety of French cheese.  In the afternoon the children led an assembly to showcase the research they had completed in the morning.

Catholic Cup

On Tuesday, our Year 5 and 6 students showed off their incredible skills at the Catholic Cup held at Goals. We are so proud of our talented team, including 8 incredible girls and 8 amazing boys who took part in this thrilling event. ️

The boys had a fantastic run, fighting their way through some tough matches and finishing an impressive 4th overall! 🏆 Well done, boys! Your hard work and determination really paid off. 👏

The girls started off with a slow start, but they never gave up! They showed incredible resilience and made a powerful comeback with a series of wins in the group stages. Unfortunately, luck was not on their side this time, but they made us proud! 💪

Huge congratulations to both our boys' and girls' teams for showcasing excellent sportsmanship and representing St. Joseph's with pride!

What Parents and Carers Need to Know about AI Virtual Friends

Artificial intelligence is probably the hot topic in technology circles right now, with questions being raised worldwide about how AI might conceivably affect the very future of the human race. In the short term, however – definitely as far as its impact on young people is concerned – the clearest risk is almost certainly the AI-powered ‘virtual friends’ which are springing up all over the internet.

There’s Replika and Kuki, for instance, while Snapchat has recently got in on the act with My AI – and search engines like Bing and Google have developed their own versions. Are these machine intelligences suitable online companions for young people? What are their limitations and weak spots? This free National Online Safety guide profiles the emergence of AI ‘virtual friends’.

Virtue to Live By

For the last few weeks of term our Virtue to Live By is

SERVICE

I look for ways to help others without being asked.

I give my time to serve willingly.

I encourage others to use their gifts to serve.

By serving others I share God’s love.

“Each of you should use the gifts God has given you to serve others.” (1 Peter 4:10)  “)
