Friday 12th May 2023

Mental Health Awareness Week starts on Monday 15th May, and is one of the biggest mental health awareness events in the school calendar.

The theme for Children's Mental Health Week 2023 is 'Let's Connect'. This theme encourages children to explore how they can cultivate meaningful connections in their lives to support their mental health and wellbeing.

“Because we are all unique and find different things difficult, it’s important that we find coping strategies that work for us and our specific needs.”

Science Week

Science Week (15th - 19th May)

Next week we will be celebrating Science Week from 15th May until 19th May 2023.  Our theme for the Science week this year is Connections with all year groups across the school taking part in different investigations and experiments. We also have several special visits from STEM Ambassadors who will deliver presentations and workshops to inform our children about the different careers available to them after studying Science

SCIENCE SELFIES

Calling all scientists... we would love to see some selfies of you doing something scientific at home. We want the children to recognise that science is all around us, every day. In order to get them to look for science around them, we are asking the children to take a Science Selfie. It could be anything at all, here are a few suggestions: blowing bubbles; planting seeds; moving toy vehicles; looking at animal habitats; throwing and catching. The children will need to write a brief explanation of what Science their Selfie shows. e.g. kicking a ball shows how forces make an object move; taking your pulse shows how fast our heart rate is.

Once you have taken a photo of you being a scientist, send it to your class teacher on class dojo and explain what science you have been doing or what you have learnt.  Entries need to be in by Friday 19th May.

The Royal Institution website (The Royal Institution) has some fabulous ideas for science activities which are specifically designed for parents/carers and children to do at home. The website has short, step-by-step videos which outline what you need and demonstrate exactly what to do. The equipment you need are all things you will already have at home (washing up liquid, plastic milk bottle tops etc.)

May Procession

On Friday 19th May we will have a special day dedicated to Mary. We would like the children to wear a blue top/t-shirt or jumper and also bring in a few flowers to present to Mary. Hopefully the weather will be fine, and we shall then be able to make a special altar to Our Lady in the school grounds. During the afternoon we will have an assembly led by our Liturgy Leaders to honour Mary in this special month.

With apologies for any confusion - The Big Lent Walk (fundraising for Cafod) will talk place in the morning and the celebrations for Mary will take place in the afternoon.

SATS Week

This week has been very important for our Year 6 learners who have been working hard completing their SATs assessments. We have been incredibly impressed with their amazing attitudes and dedication to their learning; we wish them all the best

St Joseph's Learning Behaviours

Bring and Buy BOOK SALE

The children of the School Council have decided to organise a Bring and Buy book sale in school on Wednesday 24th May at breaktime.

It is to fundraise for an end of term treat.

The idea is that each child that wants to participate brings in an old book from home that they are prepared to swap for another second hand book and bring in a £1 to take part.

Year 5 Enterprise

Y5 worked SO hard on their enterprise project 'Make £5 Grow' and grow it did!  After paying back the £150 loan to the bank, the children made £212 in profit, which is amazing! Their products ranged from slime, stress balls, framed pictures, keyrings, canvas bags, jewellery, loom bands, bouncy balls on elastic, resin and more.  They were all thoughtfully designed and wonderfully made.

It has been brought to our attention that some children are bringing Prime Bottles to school as water bottles. Please be aware even if they contain water they are not allowed in school.

Feast day of Our Lady of Fatima

The 13th May is the anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady to three shepherd children in the small village of Fatima in Portugal in 1917. She appeared six times to Lucia, 9, and her cousins Francisco, 8, and his sister Jacinta, 6, between May 13, 1917 and October 13, 1917

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee:

blessed art thou among women,

and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,

Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

pray for us sinners,

now and at the hour of our death.

Amen
