Welcome back and Happy Easter! We hope that you have all had a fantastic holiday

The last week of term was Holy Week and this was marked by some very moving Holy Week liturgies, led by different classes.  The liturgies took us through the last moments of Christ’s life. A journey that reflects the love and sacrifice he made through the pain and humiliation he suffered. Thank you to the staff who helped the children prepare and rehearse for the liturgies.

The government has announced that there will be a special bank holiday, following the coronation of His Majesty, King Charles III on Saturday 6th May 2023. The additional holiday will fall on Monday 8th May 2023, school will be closed on that day. We will be celebrating the Kings coronation in school on the Friday 5th May 2023 with a British Values Day. On this day the children are invited to come to school wearing red, white and blue. We are also holding a bun sale and would be grateful for any donations of buns

WPA Benevolent Foundation

Everyone at St. Joseph’s would like to thank the generous contribution from the WPA Benevolent Foundation (https://www.wpa.org.uk/about/supporting-good-causes), which has allowed us to purchase £1,700 worth of new equipment to promote physical activity at lunch times.

Joseph, year 6 says, “As there are a lot of people in school, having so much more equipment allows most children to access something at lunch times.”  Cameron, year 6 added, “As some people might not know what to play with in that time, having these new things could give them a new idea to try.”

We have since noticed that behaviour and pupil wellbeing has improved, now that children are better focused during these unstructured parts of the day.

We would also like to say a special thank you to Mrs Haycock, who worked hard to facilitate this excellent opportunity!

There has been lots of excitement in EYFS this week. A special delivery of 10 eggs arrived on Monday. The children have been looking at different types of eggs and animals that hatch, and have been making guesses for what they think might hatch from the eggs

By Friday all 10 eggs had hatched!

St Joseph's Learning Behaviours

This term we have begun to focus on our learning behaviours. A learning behaviour can be thought of as a behaviour that is necessary in order for a person to learn effectively. The Prophets House Captains, Dominic and Attie, introduced the first learning behaviour Self Management.

A good self manager is able to recognise and regulate their emotions

They are always equipped and ready to learn

They set goals and achieve them

Science Week

We are very excited to announce that we will be celebrating Science Week from 15th May until 19th May 2023. This has been rescheduled from the British Science Week in March due to the strike action that may be taking place.  Our theme for the Science week this year is Connections with all year groups across the school taking part in different investigations and experiments.

Big Lent Walk for CAFOD

Unfortunately, due to school closures, staff absence and a faulty link, before Easter we were not able to complete or properly track our Big Lent Walk.  However, there is still time to submit fundraising to CAFOD, and we still want to complete this challenge.  Next Friday 5th May, all classes from Nursery to Year 6 will be out on our track walking, jogging and running our way to meet our target of every child completing around 25km, by completing a final day of 5km.

On Friday, we will be out on our track for a final day of fundraising.  We ask that children do not need to come in anything other than school uniform, unless they already do due to PE days.

Online donations would be preferable, via the following link:

CAFOD Big Lent Walk

If you have cash donations, we ask that these could these be handed in to the school office or class teacher in a sealed envelope, no later than Friday 5th May 2023.

Stay tuned for pictures of what should be an exhausting, but worthwhile day!

Virtues to Live By

The Virtue to Live By for the first three weeks of this term is Perseverance and Resilience.

I will not Give up

I will have faith and hope even when things are difficult

We thought about all those in our world who do face difficulties in any aspect of their life. This week we are going to find ways in which we can be resilient, when we do not give up when things become hard or difficult because we will feel God's loving presence in every aspect of our lives
