Our Beautiful Tree Of Hope

Firework safety

Every year on Bonfire Night there are hundreds of accidents across the UK, and lots of them happen to children.

Fireworks can be very dangerous and that's why safety is the most important thing when it comes to having a display.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) say adults should deal with fireworks and that children should watch from a safe distance.

Pets often get very frightened by fireworks, so watch out for them too. You might want to keep all your pets indoors and close all the curtains.

Sparkler safety

  • Never put them in your pocket
  • Never pick one up off the floor
  • Make sure an adult is always present
  • Light them one at a time
  • Wear gloves
  • Hold them at arm's length
  • When it goes out, put the hot end in a bucket of water. Otherwise it could still burn you.

On Tuesday, all of our KS2 children attended Mass at St Joseph's Church for All Saints.

Father Lee, said a beautiful Mass which we all enjoyed. He spoke about a special saint, Sr Clare Cricket. The story of her life was inspiring, if you have a moment you should take a look on YouTube.

The children's behaviour was wonderful and was praised by a number of the parishioners, we were extremely proud of all of them.

All parents are invited to a coffee morning, 9-10am on Thursday 10th November. This will be a lovely opportunity to meet Jacqui Wright, who is our new Educational Mental Health Practitioner, and to have a coffee, cake and a chat with other parents. Email send@st-josephs.sheffield.sch.uk if you would like to attend so that we have an idea of numbers.

Unfortunately, dangerous and inconsiderate parking is still a major issue for our school. Yesterday, we were appalled to see cars parked on the zing zag lines, right in front of the school door. Also, cars parked on the corners on the double yellow lines.

These road markings are there for a reason, not just to inconvenience drivers. We must work together on this to ensure that we all keep our children safe. We fear that there shall be an accident if this continues - one that is completely avoidable- if drivers were to be more considerate and responsible.

DO NOT PARK ON THE DOUBLE YELLOW LINES OR ZIG ZAG LINES AROUND OUR SCHOOL.

We have noticed that children are coming into school wearing different items of jewellery.

Children are only allowed to wear a watch and if they have pierced ears, then small stud earrings may be worn.

Children are not allowed to wear, necklaces or chains of any kind, bracelets or anklets .

It has also been noted that some  children are coming into school with large temporary tattoos and coloured nail polish - which are not allowed .

A huge well done to all the children who received their WOW badge today, for making a real effort with walking to school last month. Keep up the great work St Joseph's !

Today all the children shall be bringing home a set of rosary beads along with a card "How to Pray The Rosary."

These were kindly gifted to the children by the Cantenians.

Please support your child at home by praying with them.

At St Joseph's, we actively encourage our children to drink a range of healthy drinks e.g. water, milk:

  •  throughout the school day
  •  as part of a Hot School Meal
  •  as part of a Packed Lunch

 Throughout the School Day
All children are actively encouraged to drink water, which is available throughout the school day. To support this, all children are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school. These bottles may only contain plain/unflavoured/uncoloured water. Drinking water is available to allow the children to refill their bottles during the day. If a child has a medical condition that requires them to drink sugary drinks then this is treated as an exception to this policy and should be approved by the headteacher.

We also have a school milk scheme, free to under 5s or children entitled to Free School Meals, and at a small cost to other children.
This water-only policy is to be applied to all breakfast and after-school clubs.
All staff in school are water-only role models and regularly drink water in front of their pupils to highlight the importance of hydration.

Open Morning

Saturday 19th of November 9:30am -12pm

On Saturday the 19th of November, we are having an open morning for prospective parents.

Please pass this on to anyone who may be interested in their child joining St Josephs School family.

November is the month of remembrance. It is a time when we are particularly conscious of those in our community who are grieving and all those families who have lost loved ones in the past year. We would like to mark this time of year by creating a special remembrance display.

Please use the candle - sent home by email - to write the names of any family members or friends whom you would like to be placed on our remembrance display. Please send your candle to school, with the names of those you would like to be remembered written on it, by Friday, 4th November. We shall remember them every time we gather together as a community.

We shall also be observing a minute silence on November 11th at 11am to remember all the people who have given their lives for their country in war.

We remember all who have died and pray for those mourning a loved one, that God will give them comfort and peace.
