Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the ll

The Royal Family are in our thoughts and prayers today.

Rest in Peace Your Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Following yesterday incredibly sad news, that Queen Elizabeth had passed away, we made certain changes to our plans.

All of our KS2 children attended the parish mass this morning and then the whole school took part in a special assembly to celebrate the Queens amazing life and service.

We are expecting the DFE to notify schools of any arrangements that may affect us during the anticipated 10 days of mourning. We will advise of any arrangements as soon as we have this information.

Today in assembly the school were introduced to our new prefects, head boy and girl and house captains. The children have some fantastic ideas which they shall be sharing with you very soon.

This term, we are once again starting our assemblies by exploring "The Virtues To Live By."

The first virtue being respect/ courtesy.

Pope Francis has often suggested three little words to families, to make daily life more beautiful. The first word: "please" is not just a matter of good education— says the Pope—but a sign of concern for others, a way that we can express our care and our love for our parents and siblings. Even Jesus knocks at our door, asking permission and patiently waiting for us to open. The second word is "thank you," God help us if we do not learn to be grateful, to say thank you, to recognise the good that we do for each other in the family. How many times do you say "thank you" to Mum and Dad for all that they give you? Finally, the third word is "sorry." The Pope knows that this word is hard to say; but he reminds us that it is necessary, if we want to stop evil with good.

Being respectful and courteous helps people feel valued and appreciated. All people of every culture and race, age and sex should be respected. Rules in our school help to guide us to respect each other in what we do and say. When we respect ourselves and our world we are fulfilling our role of stewardship in God’s world.

A good way to practice respect and courtesy is to think about how you would like to be treated and then treat others that way. You treat others’ space and their belongings with respect. You listen to what they are saying without interrupting. You speak with kind, quiet, polite words to others. Your behaviour shows that you are considerate of others feelings. It is expressing your opinion as an opinion, respectful of the fact that there is more than one point of view.

Sheffield Children's Hospital Snowflake Appeal

As a city, we are so lucky to have the Children's Hospital on our doorstep. I am sure that many of you have had to use this excellent hospital over the years.

During the summer one of our Y2 children, Heidi, was diagnosed with Leukaemia and is spending considerable time at the hospital, along with her family and is receiving much care from the incredible staff. Heidi is a very resilient and positive little girl and with the support of her loving family is doing well, although she has a challenging journey ahead of her.

As a school, we would obviously like to show our support in any way that we can. We have decided to make the Children's Hospital one of our charities of choice during this academic year. We have a number of events in the pipeline which we shall let you know about very soon. Initially we would love to sponsor a snowflake, which shall be hung outside the hospital, on the run-up to Christmas. To do this we must raise £600 between now and Christmas. We really would appreciate your support at this time.

Heavenly Father,
We give you grateful thanks
for the life of Queen Elizabeth.

Be with all who are sad today,
especially members of the Royal family.

We join in our sorrow with people throughout the world
whose lives the Queen touched
during her own long life
and who remember her with love.

Please help us all
through this time of sadness
and loving memories,
to try and make the world a better place

We ask in Jesus' name.

Amen
