Memorial of St Joseph the Worker – 1 ...

May 1, 2026
Memorial Feast of St. Joseph the Worker

Today we celebrate Saint Joseph, the husband of Mary and the caring foster father of Jesus Christ. This is the second feast day in the Church year dedicated to St. Joseph.

St. Joseph was a carpenter and is a wonderful example of someone who worked hard, listened to God, and cared for his family. Even though no words of his are recorded in the Bible, his actions show us kindness, courage, and trust. He is the patron saint of workers and fathers.

St. Joseph, pray for us.

This week, our Year 4 children attended Parish Mass, where they represented the school beautifully and were complimented on their excellent and respectful behaviour, making us all very proud. At the end of Mass, Monsignor Mark encouraged the children to speak with Mrs McFarlane to request an extra-long playtime, which they confidently did. As a result, the whole school enjoyed some additional playtime together in the sunshine.

Thank you to all the parents who attended the SEN coffee morning last week. We are also grateful to Lynette Greenacre, our specialist SEN Primary Mental Health Practitioner, who delivered an informative session on supporting children’s needs and shared helpful advice and strategies with families.

Safeguarding: Online Safety

As technology plays an increasingly important role in children’s lives, it is essential that we work together to keep them safe online. Children may access the internet through games, apps, and social media, so regular conversations at home can make a big difference.

We encourage parents and carers to:

  • Talk to your child about what they do online and who they are communicating with
  • Remind them never to share personal information such as their full name, address, or school
  • Set parental controls on devices and apps where possible
  • Keep devices in shared family spaces and monitor screen time
  • Encourage your child to tell a trusted adult if something online worries or upsets them.

Please also be aware that apps such as WhatsApp and other social media platforms often have age restrictions (typically 13+). Group chats can sometimes lead to misunderstandings, unkind messages, or the sharing of inappropriate content. We strongly advise that children in primary school are closely supervised when using these apps, and that families regularly check privacy settings and group memberships.

For additional support and guidance, you may find the NSPCC and Childnet websites helpful.

By working together, we can help children enjoy the benefits of the online world safely and responsibly.

As the weather starts to warm up, please can we ask that children come to school ready for the sunshine. A sunhat would be really helpful, and we kindly ask that suncream is applied at home before children arrive at school.

Please also make sure your child brings a bottle of fresh drinking water each day. This can be refilled throughout the day as needed, so they can stay well hydrated.

Please remember  that we are a water-only school, so children should not bring fizzy drinks, squash, flavoured water  or any other drinks into school.

Thank you for your continued support in keeping everyone safe, healthy, and ready to learn in the warmer weather.

School May Procession

On Friday 22nd May, you are warmly invited to our annual May Procession. May is dedicated to Our Lady , and this is a special time when we come together to honour her. It has become a much-loved and memorable part of our school year.

The procession will begin at 2:00pm in the school playground. Please can children wear something blue on the day, and bring in a flower or two to place at the feet of the statue of Our Lady.

We look forward to celebrating together with you.

Last week, Year 3 visited The Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet as part of their History topic. The children’s behaviour was outstanding, and no fewer than three members of the public commented on how well they represented the school while they were there.

Today, they are enjoying a special treat after reaching their Dojo target. They have spent time in the Rec in the sunshine, and enjoyed some well-deserved ice lollies too!
