Friday 16th May 2025

Our week began with a whole school assembly, to learn a little more about Pope Leo.

Pope Leo XIV was born Robert Francis Prevost.

He was born in America but has lived all over the world.

Pope Leo XIV lived and worked with the people of Peru, in South America, for decades.

He gave a warm greeting in Spanish to people from Peru on the balcony.

These were some of Pope Leo XIV’s words on the balcony of the Vatican:

"We must build bridges with dialogue, coming together, uniting, becoming one single people in peace.”

Pope Leo XIV will be a voice of wisdom as he continues the important work of leading the church in the world.

He will work with world leaders to make sure that the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable people are taken into account.

God in Heaven

Hear our prayers for the new pope, Leo XIV.

May he be a messenger of hope and peace to the Church and the world for many years to come.

Give him the wisdom and courage to lead your people and help us to listen to him carefully.

Amen.

Here we have some very thoughtful pieces of work which were done by our Y5 class, after learning about Pope Leo.

This week our fabulous Y5 children are on their first residential trip, to Loosehill Hall in Castleton.

They have all had an amazing time. They have been caving, hiking, den building, making egg rockets as well, of course, as making very special memories.

It's been a busy couple of days, and we are sure they will all be ready for an early night when they return home !

Today our Y4 class attended the Parish Mass. Afterwards, one of the parishioners shared that they thought the children had behaved wonderfully and had sung beautifully. She then said they really were like little angels !

Well done to all of Y4, it is always fantastic to receive such praise.

Still the best-selling game of all time, Minecraft has hundreds of millions of players - making it more important than ever to stay informed. With its vibrant worlds and endless potential for creativity it’s no wonder Minecraft continues to capture young imaginations.

With the Minecraft movie hitting cinemas in April, interest in the game has remained strong. But whether they’re mining resources or building digital castles, children could also encounter strangers, scary content or bullying behaviour online.

We’ve created this free guide offering parents and educators the latest top tips on how to keep children safe from issues like griefing, chat risks, and unintended purchases, while still embracing the game’s educational and creative benefits.

We were very proud of our wonderful Y6 class this week. The children approached their SATS with so much maturity and confidence.

They have lots of lovely events planned for the next few weeks, before the end of the year and moving onto their new secondary schools.

We would like to invite you to join us for our Marian Procession, which will take place on Friday the 9th of June at 1:30pm. This is a special tradition in our school calendar where we come together as a school and parish family to honour Our Lady.

The procession will begin in the school grounds and will include prayers, hymns, and the crowning of Mary. We encourage all children to bring a small flower to carry during the procession, which they will offer as part of the celebration. The children are also asked to wear a blue top for this occasion.

Following the procession, cream teas will be available for purchase in the school hall. We warmly invite you to stay and enjoy our beautiful grounds and some refreshments with us, following the procession. All proceeds will go towards supporting school activities and resources.

We hope to see many of you there for this meaningful and enjoyable event.
