Friday 31st January 2025

This year Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) marks 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp. It is also the thirtieth anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia. The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day for 2025 is 'For a Better Future'.

We need to be the generation that carries on the legacy of the survivors, the witnesses to the Holocaust. We must not just remember those who were murdered and persecuted but challenge those who distort or deny the past and those who choose to persecute and discriminate today.

Holocaust Memorial Day 2025, gives the opportunity for us to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day and pay tribute to those who were persecuted, attacked and killed by committing to working 'For a Better Future' for everyone.

Our Y6 class led the whole school in a very special Holocaust Memorial assembly. This allowed us to reflect together and pray that this  would never happen again.

Today in the assembly, Mr Findler and our Sports Prefects introduced some exciting challenges, for us all to try .

Please check out Class Dojo, to take part.

On Thursday we had a very exciting assembly led by Tim from Rock Steady. We all loved it !

The children then took part in rock workshops, and loved trying out all of the different rock musical instruments .

The children should all have come home with a letter from Rock Steady , inviting you to enrol your child in their rock music clubs. These clubs will all be held during the school day. Should you wish to enrol your child, then please follow the instructions on the form.

Places are very limited so if you are interested please book your place as soon as possible.

Getting involved in your child’s sport or activity

Parents and carers play a big role in encouraging children to take part in sport or physical activity, which is important if we want our children to live healthy and active lifestyles.

This can look different for many parents. It could mean washing kits, being their personal cheerleader or team taxi driver. But it also means making sure their sport is a safe place for them to thrive and enjoy.

Being part of the sports community

Being part of an open and inclusive sport community that focuses on what’s best for all children can help safeguard in sport, as well as provide an enjoyable and positive experience for your child. For parents and carers, this open relationship with sports clubs and activity providers can enable more conversations about safeguarding and positive behaviour.

Having an understanding and interest in your child’s sports club or activity will help to create a space where your child feels able to share their experiences with you. Good or bad. This can help you:

  • be part of the team
  • build good relationships with the club, the coaches, staff, volunteers and players
  • support your child and their friends
  • understand the possible challenges and risks in the sport
  • raise helpful suggestions about how to improve things, as well as voicing any concerns you or your child may have

Download this useful information sheet, How can you get involved in your child's sports club?, which gives tips on supporting and encouraging your child in their sporting life.

Dear Lord,

We remember all those who experienced the Holocaust, both those that died and those that survived. Help them all find peace. And help us to always be ready to stand up to cruelty. Help us to be strong and brave and kind, so such things can not happen again.

Amen
