Friday 17th January 2025

World Religion Day is celebrated every January on the third Sunday of the month. In 2025, it falls on the 19th of January. Its aim is to promote understanding and peace between all religions, encouraging people to learn about other faiths and their followers.

The six major religions of the world are Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism and Sikhism. Nearly seventy-five per cent of the world practices one of these six religions. World Religion Day promotes their similarities and the role religion has played in uniting people across the planet.

This afternoon we had a whole school assembly to introduce this special day. The children then all learnt about one of the six religions in their classrooms.

Here are just a few photos to show some of the things that the children got up to. Please ask them about what they learnt today. Can they share any similarities with you, between the religion they learnt about and Christianity ?

On Thursday, our Y5 class went to Magna in Rotherham as part of their Science topic ‘Forces’. They had a fantastic time and really enjoyed being able to enhance their learning through physical activities.

This week we were able to start our first Lego Robotics club, thanks to securing a grant from Virgin Bank for 8 Lego Spike Essential kits. The children are learning to be computer programmers through learning to control robots made out of Lego! This week the children built helicopters, minigolf and cars. We are looking forward to seeing what the children can achieve this term.

A recent report by Ofcom highlighted that over half of 3-17-year-olds use TikTok.

TikTok is a video-sharing platform where you can watch and create videos and livestream. The app has an age-rating of 13+, meaning that our children in school should not be accessing it at all.

With 22% of its billion-strong userbase being between the ages of 13 and 17, the popularity of TikTok amongst the younger generation is indisputable. Providing entertainment in the form of a stream of short-form video content while allowing its users to post videos of their own. The app has skyrocketed to prominence over the last few years, becoming a fixture in young people’s digital lives.

Of course, with a platform as popular as TikTok, it can be intimidating trying to figure out how best to safeguard children and young people using the app. This guide details the main online safety concerns and suggests strategies to reduce these risks for the app’s younger users.
