St. Clare - An Example to Follow - Franciscan Action Network

Today Y2 led a wonderful whole school assembly, to teach us all about their class saint, Saint Clare of Assisi.

Clare of Assisi (born Chiara Offreduccio and sometimes spelt Clara, Clair, Claire, Sinclair; 16 July 1194 β€“ 11 August 1253) was an Italian saint and one of the first followers of Francis of Assisi. She founded the Order of Poor Ladies, a monastic religious order for women in the Franciscan tradition, and wrote their Rule of Life, the first set of monastic guidelines known to have been written by a woman. Following her death, the order she founded was renamed in her honour as the Order of Saint Clare, commonly referred to today as the Poor Clares. Her feast day is on 11 August.

Our Year 2 class has had a very busy week. Yesterday they had a lovely day at the National Emergency Services Museum. They were extremely well-behaved, a real credit to our school.

The children looked fantastic in their spotty accessories !

We had spotty socks, ties, boppers and headbands galore !

Thank you for your kind donations towards this excellent cause.

This week our brand new Art Prefects did a fantastic job of collecting all of our school art resources so that they can be stored centrally in our MAKER room.

At St Joseph's, we really do focus on creativity. This is our new Art Gallery, where we are going to regularly display and celebrate the children's wonderful artwork.

I am sure that you will agree, the work is excellent !

Figures from Cycling UK tell us that only 2.2% of UK schoolchildren currently cycle to school despite the majority owning a bike. Encouraging young people to get into this hobby can be a great way to keep them active and cut down on their screen time – while potentially providing them with a healthy and convenient way of travelling to and from school or getting around in general.

Of course, it’s imperative that children and young people know how to keep themselves safe while riding from A to B, if they want to avoid the risk of injury or other unpleasant experiences that could discourage them from continuing with the hobby.

This useful guide will help you and the children get ready for Road Safety week, starting on 17/11 .

If you would like a ticket for this event, then please speak to Mrs Mecco or Mrs Highton -Shirt on the school playground at the start or end of the school day.
