The Art Show has been a great success, with amazing work on display. The children have worked hard this term exploring, skill building and creating art for their topic work. They have produced such fabulous creations that parents were invited into school to see some of the beautiful work the children have completed.

Many thanks to everyone who was able to come and see the work. Well done to all the children who produced brilliant work and thanks to all the staff who have helped the children and made the show happen!

Keep Britain Tidy

Improving the environment on our doorstep

Litter harms wildlife, costs millions to clear, and looks terrible! Worst of all, litter attracts litter. If an area is already littered, then people are more likely to drop more litter! Two of our pupils in Year 1 have been taking action to improve our local community by litter picking.

If you are considering helping the environment by litter picking, there are some things you need to consider before you begin, to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable experience, whilst making an impact.

  1. Choose a location to clean
  2. Equipment - You should always wear heavy duty gloves, for hygiene reasons and to prevent cuts & scratches. Using hand sanitiser is also recommended.
  3. Disposing of your litter - Before you begin litter picking, you should consider how you will dispose of the rubbish at the end.
  4. Health AND safety - If litter picking alone, let someone know where you plan to go and what time you plan to be home.
  5. Wear a high visibility vest or bright colours so others can see you. Please only litter pick during full daylight

This week all of our Y6 children visited their new schools and had a wonderful time.

We received a telephone call from Ms Hartley of All Saints, who praised the Y6 children who will be joining them in September. She shared that every member of staff who had come into contact with our children had said how polite and respectful our children were and they couldn't wait to teach them next year.

We couldn't be prouder of our wonderful Y6's !

Get your child to school on time every day

There is a link between good school attendance and high level attainment. Regardless of the reason, if your child is absent from school it will impact on their learning.

Parents/carers are legally responsible for ensuring their child attends school on time every day.

Medical Appointments

Where possible all appointments should be booked outside of school hours. Where this is not possible, the amount of school time missed must be kept to a minimum. School may not authorise the time off school if medical evidence is not provided

Too ill to attend school?

Children can attend school with minor ailments (toothache, headache, stomach ache, cold, sore throat), over the counter medicines can be given before school. School will contact you if they become too ill to remain in school. Children should be off school for 48 hours if they have diarrhoea or vomiting.

If you are unsure how long your child should be absent with an illness, speak to your child's school, your doctor or your pharmacist for advice.

Unauthorised Leave in Term Time (Holidays)

Children are not entitled to holidays in term time. Family holidays should be taken during school holiday periods.

Request for leave due to exceptional circumstances preventing the period of leave being taken during school holidays must be made in writing to the Head Teacher

Fines of £120 per parents/ carer reduced to £60 if paid within 21 days may be issued where unauthorised leave has been taken during term time

Absence during term time

Children must not be absent from school for,

  • Day trips,
  • Shopping
  • Birthdays
  • Baby sitting
  • Parents/Carer or sibling illness.

Reporting absence

It is a parent/carer's responsibility to notify school if their child is absent. A reason must be provided.

Trolling is the act of making inflammatory comments or behaving in an abusive manner online to hurt the feelings of others or provoke a reaction from them 😡 It is estimated that in 2022, over a third (34%) of people in the UK who suffered online abuse were specifically victims of trolling. The repercussions of this type of online abuse can be severe, which is why it is imperative that parents and educators have the tools to mitigate the risk of harm to children and young people.

In this week's guide, experts offer insight into the act of online trolling and provide advice on how to protect children and young people if they encounter it themselves, helping them minimise the impact of this hurtful behaviour.

The Year of Prayer 2024

In preparation for the 2025 Jubilee Year ‘Pilgrims of Hope’, 2024 has been designated a Year of Prayer.

The Holy Father has asked that 2024 be a year of prayer, as a preparatory year for the Jubilee.

"Prayer unites us: it makes us brothers and sisters. It is in prayer that our hearts find the strength not to be cold and insensitive in the face of injustice. In prayer, God keeps calling us, opening our hearts to charity!

Pope Francis

Prayer Intention for July: For Pastoral Care of the Sick

The Holy Father asks “for the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick to give strength from the Lord to those who receive it and their loved ones, becoming a visible sign of compassion and hope for everyone.”
