Trinity Sunday

Trinity Sunday is celebrated this Sunday. It’s a day we celebrate that God is made up of the Father, the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit.

In this week’s Gospel, Jesus gives clear instructions. As His followers, these are instructions for us too! We are to: Go out to all, make disciples in the name of the Holy Trinity, teach them how to love. Jesus sent his disciples out to spread his word and told us he will always be with us.

Year 5 Residential Castleton

Year 3 Weston Park Museum

Year 3 had an amazing visit to Weston Park Museum yesterday. They really enjoyed finding out about life (and the afterlife) of the Ancient Egyptians.
We investigated the life of Djedma'atiuesankh, a young Ancient Egyptian who died around 650BC. We then explored mummification using tomatoes which we will continue to monitor at school.

The children were able to see two ornate coffins, containing the mummies of Nesitanebetasheru and Djedma'atiuesank. There was also a limestone ‘listening ear’, which would have been used by its owner to talk to the gods.

The children were encouraged to think about how these objects came to be in Sheffield. Through a structured debate the children considered how colonialism equipped our museums with the knowledge of lives in Ancient Egypt and discussed how this makes them feel.

Year 1 Castle Workshop

On Wednesday Year 1 spent the afternoon exploring different castle structures, picking out their features and looking at the shapes they are based on. The children then worked as a team to create a large scale ‘stick castle’, made from bamboo. This incorporated their problem-solving skills with their knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes. The use of elastic bands to secure the bamboo structure supported the development of their fine-motor skills!
‍
Once they had built a large-scale, class castle, the children created symmetrical flags to place on their finished structures. These were made using natural materials, hammered against a cloth to create imprints.

Mrs Cosgrove’s husband and 3 other crew members will be embarking on a sailing trip to circumnavigate the British Isles for cancer awareness and to raise vital funds for Weston Park Cancer Charity. They will be setting off on their journey on Sunday 2nd June 2024 from Whitby harbour. The journey should take approximately three and a half weeks depending on the weather.

Mrs Cosgrove’s mum, who was a supply teacher many years ago at St Joseph’s, sadly passed away last October after living with cancer for five and  a half years and received life extending treatment and excellent care from Weston Park Hospital. Mr Cosgrove wanted to give something back to the hospital and raise cancer awareness and decided to organise this charity ‘Voyage For Hope’ sail. One in two of us will unfortunately be affected by cancer in our lifetime. Please help us to raise money and awareness for this excellent charity by donating what you can. Thank you.

NHS 'Is my child too ill for school?' guidance

A study from the British Psychological Society found that the majority of children (71%) had at least one close friend as early as five years old 👫😊 These connections can form rather quickly and develop with equal speed. At such a young age, it can be remarkable how suddenly two children can hit it off with one another 🚀

However, it is deeply important that children can recognise both the features of a healthy relationship, as well as the potential signs of a less healthy dynamic ☣️ The guide below offers some top tips on reinforcing the formation of healthy friendships among children and young people.

Friends of St Joseph's

The Friends of St Joseph's are holding a Father's Day Wrap on Friday 14th June.  They need help shopping for the gifts, wrapping the gifts and on the day helping the children choose their gifts. If you are able to help with any of these please contact the school office

Tickets (£3.00 each) will be available though the school gateway soon.
