Friday 8th March 2024

It has been a very exciting day at St Josephs. The children and staff all looked incredible in their World Book Day costumes.

We were well and truly amazed by all of the character potato entries this year …it really was hard to choose the best ones.

Here are our winners, who each received a £5 book token, to buy a book of their choice.

‘Guess Who?’

Some of our staff have had a photo of themselves taken whilst hiding behind their favourite book.  Can you guess who they are?

Dear Parents/Carers,

Science Week (11th - 15th March)

Next week we will be celebrating Science Week from 11th March until 15th March 2024.  Our theme for the Science week this year is Time with all year groups across the school taking part in different investigations and experiments.

We would like you to join in with the fun, so have set three science activities that you can do with your child or children at home. Details of the activities are attached to this letter. Questions to ask your child: What do you think will happen? Why do you think that? What can you see? Why did that happen? Please take photographs or make drawings of the experiments completed and share them with us using classdojo or sending them into school with your child. The deadline to submit your entries is Friday 15th March 2024.

SCIENCE SELFIES

Calling all scientists... we would love to see some selfies of you doing something scientific at home. We want the children to recognise that science is all around us, every day. In order to get them to look for science around them, we are asking the children to take a Science Selfie. It could be anything at all, here are a few suggestions: blowing bubbles; planting seeds; moving toy vehicles; looking at animal habitats; throwing and catching. The children will need to write a brief explanation of what Science their Selfie shows. e.g. kicking a ball shows how forces make an object move; taking your pulse shows how fast our heart rate is.

Once you have taken a photo of you being a scientist, send it to your class teacher on class dojo and explain what science you have been doing or what you have learnt.  Entries need to be in by Friday 15th March.

The Royal Institution website (The Royal Institution) has some fabulous ideas for science activities which are specifically designed for parents/carers and children to do at home. The website has short, step-by-step videos which outline what you need and demonstrate exactly what to do. The equipment you need are all things you will already have at home (washing up liquid, plastic milk bottle tops etc.)

Thank you in advance for taking part in Science Week. We look forward to receiving your entries.

Many Thanks

Mrs Harrand

Congratulations to our children who have displayed the

Maker Spirit of being Innovative

Theo, Ruby, Ruby, T'Nyren, Erin, Erin and Jorgie

They demonstrated their innovative Maker Spirit by taking risks, making decisions, using their imagination and creativity and focused on the process not just the end result

Our house captains explained how to achieve next week's Maker Spirit certificate for Autonomous Learners

Good levels of attendance are important for academic progress and personal development. Children with irregular attendance can feel unsettled from school. We understand that sometimes there are reasons for absence. We hope the following information will help.

Absences.

Parents/Carers must notify school by telephone, letter or in person each morning of the absence giving details of the illness and the likely date of return by 9.15am please. We require advance notice of any appointments during school time. An appointment card/letter from the hospital, doctors or dentist will need to be shown to the Office Staff before permission is given to authorise an absence for a medical appointment.

Children are not allowed to leave school during the school day unless clear information is given by the parent/carer regarding who is collecting the child and when. The person collecting the child will be asked to sign them in and out from school.

Religious Observance.

Parents may request leave of absence for days of religious observance related to the family religion e.g. Eid. If you are likely to do this you must inform the school and give as much notice as possible of the intended leave.

Returning to school after illness.

Parents need to make the decision about a child’s level of fitness to return to school. Problems can occur when a child returns to school too soon and is not able to cope with a full day. If children are sick and/or have diarrhoea they should not return to school until 48 hours after the last bout.

Late for school.

Any child arriving at school after 9am must enter school by the main office. A child arriving between 9am and 9.20am will receive a ‘L’ mark on the register.  This mark will affect the attendance level of the child. The parents of children who are late on a regular basis will be contacted. Some children do walk to and from school alone; this means it is vitally important to know from parents/carers should their child be ill or late for school.

Requesting permission for absence.

As directed by the Government, absences during term time will only be authorised if permission has been given by the Headteacher. Permission is only granted in exceptional circumstances. To request a term time leave of absence, please collect an ‘Exceptional Term Time Leave’ form from the School Office.

You will be notified in writing of the decision.  In making a decision previous requests for absence and current levels of attendance will be taken into account.

Weekly Attendance - week beginning 4th March 2024

Our whole school attendance target for this academic year (23/24) is 96.5%

Dear Parents/Carers

As already highlighted in the school diary, we are offering you an opportunity to come into school this term to look at your child's work and discuss his or her progress with their class teacher. This will also give you an opportunity to explore how we can work together to ensure your child makes the best possible progress towards the targets and expectations we are setting them.

This terms Parents’ Evening will be across two days:

Thursday 21st March (3:30pm - 6:00pm)

Tuesday 26th March (3:30pm - 6:00pm)

You will receive an appointment from your class teacher on class dojo. If you are unable to attend at the allocated time, please send a dojo message or contact the office so that a suitable alternative can be arranged. Please be aware that appointments are strictly 10 minutes and you will need to arrive in good time. If you require any further discussion beyond the initial meeting, you must make a separate appointment with your child's class teacher.

Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher.
