Governing Board

Our governors play an important role in supporting and challenging the school’s leadership and helping to ensure that St Joseph’s continues to provide the very best education and care for all our children.

In addition to their wider governance responsibilities, governors have individual areas of responsibility and act as links to particular year groups, curriculum subjects and aspects of school life. Link governors visit school during the year, meet with staff and pupils and report back to the Governing Body. This helps governors to understand the work of the school first-hand and to provide appropriate support and challenge.

As a Catholic school, our governors also have an important responsibility for protecting and promoting the Catholic life and mission of St Joseph’s, ensuring that our mission — “We Live, We Love, We Learn, We Share” — remains at the heart of school life.

The core responsibilities of the governing board are:

1. To ensure the clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school.
2. To hold the Head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.
3. To oversee the financial performance of the school and ensure the money is well spent.

We have four full governing board meetings alongside a minimum of two-three subcommittee meetings per academic year.
