Holy Week

Holy Week is the most important week of the year for Christians. It begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Holy Saturday night. During Holy Week we remember the three days of Jesus’ Passion, death and Resurrection

THE LAST SUPPER

On the night before Jesus died he shared a meal with his disciples. This meal is known as the Last Supper. It was a sad time. Jesus knew he was about to die and he told the disciples that he loved them. Jesus took a bowl of water and bent down to wash their feet and dry them with a towel. The disciples were surprised because this was a job for the servants. Peter tried to stop Jesus. But Jesus explained, “I have set you an example. You must serve one another, just as I have served you.” At the meal Jesus broke the bread, gave thanks to God for it and gave it to his disciples. He said, “This is my body, given for you. Do this in memory of me.” Then he took a cup of wine, thanked God for it and shared it with his disciples, saying, “This is my blood, poured out for you. Drink it in memory of me.”

GOOD FRIDAY

Good Friday is the day we remember Jesus dying on the cross for the salvation of all mankind. It is called ‘Good’ because it offers the hope of eternal life and reconciled man with God. When Jesus died on the cross, there was an earthquake and an eclipse. The curtain in the Temple ripped in two which meant that the Holy of Holies was no longer separate from the people. Jesus’ mission was fulfilled. Good Friday is a special day to remember the great love God has for us.

Palm Sunday assembly - KS1

Year 1 and 2 began the Holy Week liturgies with Palm Sunday. They read and sang beautifully to portray this special event. They made their own palm branches and acted out the events of Palm Sunday, when Jesus and his disciples arrived in Jerusalem and were welcomed by the people shouting ‘Praise God! Hosanna!’.

The Last Supper - Y3 & Y4

On Monday Year 3 and Year 4 continued our journey of Holy week by leading us in liturgy about The Last Supper. Through readings they told the events of Jesus the night before he died. They spoke the words that Jesus spoke, the words we hear at Mass. The children read beautifully and sang the hymns One Bread One Body and Come to the Table of the Lord. It was a very reverent way to express the events of that last meal Jesus shared with his friends.

Easter Praise - KS2

The children from Year 5 performed Easter Praise a retelling of the final days in Jesus' life. The choir and the children from KS2 supported year 5 with wonderful singing. The children and staff have worked so hard over the past few weeks to ensure that this is delivered in a respectful, reverent and thoughtful way. It was a wonderful end to Lent and Holy week.

Shine Project

Congratulations to five of our Year 5 pupils for successfully completing the Shine programme at Sheffield Girls High School. The programme began on Saturday 27th January and included 38 students from nine local Sheffield schools. The sessions took place every Saturday morning for 11 weeks and aims to provide enriching experiences for young minds, offering a gateway to diverse learning environments.

This first SHINE session started with a drama storytelling workshop. The following SHINE sessions included a diverse range of activities, ensuring a holistic learning experience. The agenda included topics such as Maths Puzzles, Creative Computing, Dinosaurs, Art, Bouncing: The Science of Exhilaration, Egg Drop and a Music Celebration. Each session was carefully curated to ignite curiosity, foster new skills, and create lasting friendships. Most importantly, they are lots of fun!
